A Chinese gamer has filed a lawsuit against a gaming company, claiming he suffers from depression after being hit over 4,800 times with in-game items while playing the multiplayer game Three Kingdoms Kill Online.
The man, who goes by the name Qiaoben, has been playing the online game, which is set during the Three Kingdoms period (220-265), for 15 years and has achieved some authority and skill in it.
The gamer also discovered that after each victory, his opponents threw virtual eggs and straw sandals at his avatar, thus venting their frustration after a defeat, while hinting at slaps.
Based on the number of games he played, the gamer calculated that he had been "slapped" more than 4,800 times in the last six months. In one of the last games, the virtual "slap" he received lasted more than a minute and a half.
The player said that his self-esteem was suffering because all the players had seen these slaps, and he was getting depressed.
It is noted that eggs and straw sandals can be obtained for free by completing in-game tasks, or purchased for a minimal price. At the same time, in his lawsuit, the player claims that the manufacturer encourages users to throw "offensive" objects at each other, making a profit from sales.
The publication notes that many players share their experiences of using in-game items as retaliatory actions on social networks. For example, throwing virtual eggs at an opponent allegedly helps losers "save face".
A company representative, in turn, explained that these items are part of the game, but after complaints, restrictions on their use will be introduced.
