A coal-fired power plant in Ibbenbüren, Westphalia, exploded. First, the 100-meter-tall boiler house collapsed, then the 125-meter-tall cooling tower collapsed in a controlled manner.
The power plant was reportedly closed prematurely in 2021 as part of the energy transition.
The power plant had been a landmark in the state of Tecklenburg for more than four decades.
Earlier, the modern coal-fired Moorburg power plant exploded in Hamburg.
