A baggage error nearly cost tourists their freedom. A married couple took someone else's suitcase, in which they later found a prohibited substance.
An unusual incident occurred with a Thai married couple traveling abroad for the first time. By mistake, they took someone else's suitcase, which contained 24 kilograms of cannabis.
The couple arrived at Suvarnabhumi Airport (Thailand) from Surat Thani and were waiting for a connecting flight to Japan. They were carrying a red bag and a black suitcase, but at the airport they mistakenly took a similar bag belonging to another passenger. The real owner of the suitcase quickly reported it missing, but airport staff were unable to contact the family, as the number was registered to their daughter, who had organized the trip.
The couple boarded the plane calmly and, already in Japan, while trying to get toiletries, discovered that the suitcase would not open. After a call from their daughter, they checked the baggage tag and realized that it did not belong to them. With the help of a guide, they managed to open the suitcase, which contained 24 kg of dried cannabis. The discovery was immediately reported to the airport, after which a nine-hour investigation began.
As a result, Japanese customs services were convinced that the couple did not intend to transport drugs. Despite the stress they experienced, the next day the couple was able to continue their vacation at the foot of Fuji.
The publication notes that this incident raised questions about the security system at Thai airports. The Thai guide accompanying the couple expressed surprise that such a large batch of drugs was able to pass through two airports of the country without any problems.
