A black Labrador, who was named mayor of a Californian town, has stayed in his town forever to maintain order in it, now in the form of a statue.
A bronze sculpture of a large black dog named Bosco stands at the post office in Sunol, California. But this statue is not just a monument to a beloved pet, but an image of one of the city's former mayors.
His full name is Bosco Ramos, a black Labrador retriever mixed with Rottweiler, known simply as Bosco. The canine was likely the only dog to ever hold the office of American mayor, and the first dog elected to the position.
A pet of the local Stillman family, Bosco was nominated for the post as a joke, but ultimately beat out two real candidates who wanted to become mayor. The friendly black dog held the post from 1981 until his death in 1994. Although the city residents fondly remembered the unconventional mayor, a life-size statue was not erected until 2008.
During his time as mayor, Bosco basically just allowed himself to walk around the city. So after the death of the tailed politician, several puppies suspiciously similar to him remained in the city. This has not been proven, but locals believe that Bosco had several girlfriends whom he visited during his walks. They continued the line of the authoritative dog and proved that the position of mayor definitely has its advantages and privileges.
