The first Chevrolet Corvette hypercar ZR1 went under the hammer (7 photos)
The auction price of the collector's item exceeded the recommended price by 21 times.
The first production Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 of the 2025 model year with a 1064-horsepower 5.5-liter V8 was sold at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale.
Painted in glossy black with blue racing stripes and blue wheels, the Corvette with a VIN of a series of zeros with a one at the end went for a staggering $3.7 million, which is many times higher than the manufacturer's recommended price of 175 thousand. The proceeds will not go to the GM budget, but will be donated to the Red Cross.
The owner of the hypercar was Rick Hendrick. In 1976, the 27-year-old businessman was named the youngest Chevrolet dealer in the United States. Over the past half century, his business has grown to one and a half hundred auto centers, Hendrick acquired his own racing team in NASCAR and a hobby directly related to his work - he collects cars.
His collection includes over 200 cars, half of which are Corvettes of various years of production. Of the new models, the American prefers pilot copies, paying exorbitant amounts for them at auctions. For example, he paid $3 million for the first Corvette Stingray of the 2020 model year and $3.6 million for the 2020 Z06 with a one in the VIN code.
