The driver suffered serious material damage due to his carelessness.
The incident took place in the IJmuiden area, near Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
The driver parked after pulling up to a row of spaces right next to the port. He got out of his silver Nissan Micra, and the moment he slammed the door, the car started to roll. Unfortunately, he did not look back and walked away, heading towards the entrance of a cafe.
CCTV captured the moment the car fell into the water.
Emergency services arrived at the scene at around 2.30pm on Monday, January 20, minutes after it happened. Both the fire service and police were present, as well as several ambulances and even a helicopter.
At first there were concerns that people might have been hurt, but it soon became clear that no one was inside.
The car was completely submerged in the water and was raised by specialists, a diving team was on site to help firefighters find the car, and passers-by were said to have watched in amazement.

It is expected that the driver will most likely face significant financial losses due to the fact that car insurance usually does not fully cover this type of accident. Also, the service of lifting the car from the water can be very expensive.
