Maxi is the largest goose in the world (7 photos + 1 video)
This 12-metre bird symbolises the so-called wild goose capital of the world.
In the middle of a public park, frozen in flight, stands a monstrously large bird known as Maxi, the mascot of the so-called wild goose capital of the world.
This giant bird was first installed in 1976. Although it is made of fiberglass, it was flown to its current location by helicopter. Even though it weighs almost two tons, it moves slightly in strong winds, turning slightly. The giant bird stands on a tall cinder block stand.
Sumner is located on a bird migration route, and each year a large number (about 100,000) of wild geese fly to the local lakes, which attracts many hunters.
This has earned the city its bird nickname - "The Goose Capital of the World", as well as a goose-themed festival that has been held here every October since 1955. The city has become famous for its overall goose theme, of which Maxi is undoubtedly the crown jewel.
Visitors to the giant statue can try to touch the tips of the wings. But it may be difficult to reach them, since they “hover” in the air at a decent height, and their length is about 20 meters.
Fortunately, even with its enormous size, the bird looks majestic, not frightening, fully coping with the important task assigned to it as a symbol.
