These ladies own 11% of the world's gold reserves.
11% of the world's gold reserves is more than the United States, Germany, Great Britain and France combined. According to official data, the population of India currently holds about 24,000 tons of the precious metal. While the United States, according to official data, holds only 8,133 tons.
But let's move on to the lovely ladies. Interestingly, Indian laws allow married women to have up to 500 grams of gold without paying any taxes. For unmarried women, this limit is 250 grams. However, men can only have 100 grams of gold.
Over the centuries, some enterprising families have managed to accumulate impressive reserves of precious metals. And all thanks to the tradition of passing down precious jewelry from generation to generation and receiving them as gifts for any serious event, be it a wedding or the birth of a child.
Rich families keep jewelry and gold bars as a savings deposit for the future and as a dowry for weddings.
Thus, according to the World Gold Council report, women in India currently owned 24,000 tons of gold. However, women's gold is not included in the country's official gold reserves.
