A VW Golf convertible was delivered to its owner 37 years after purchase (2 photos + 1 video)

Volkswagen shared an unusual story of Charlene Johnson, the owner of a 1987 VW Golf convertible. The American ordered the car new in Europe and counted on the manufacturer's help in delivering the convertible overseas. But circumstances developed in such a way that the Golf, with the help of Volkswagen, crossed the Atlantic only 37 years later.





The fact that Charlene Johnson ordered the car in Europe, rather than buying it from a local dealer, was explained by the service that existed at the time. You could personally pick up the car from the factory and spend some time with it on a trip, after which Volkswagen took on the delivery of the purchase to the customer's place of residence.

In 1987, Charlene moved from the United States to the Netherlands to work as a teacher for a while, and used this program to buy a new Golf. However, she did not return to the States, staying in Europe until 2024. According to her, she literally fell in love with the car: the convertible was a witness to her wedding, later Charlene and her husband traveled around almost all of Europe in it, and their children learned to drive at the wheel of this Golf.

In 2024, Charlene Johnson retired and decided to return to her homeland. She kept the documents for the car she received when she bought it, and took a chance on contacting Volkswagen for a delivery service that she never received. The company was so impressed by the story of the VW Golf owner that, despite refusing this program back in the early 2000s, they decided to help. The car was transported by ship to Houston, and from there it was sent to Charlene Johnson's home in Montana.
