The 39th US President Jimmy Carter died at the age of 100 (6 photos)
Here comes the last Monday of the year, and I come to you with news from overseas.
Yes, I know that 80% of the comments under this post will be in the spirit of "he died, yes, he died, what's the point of mumbling", but still.
Jimmy Carter was luckier than all the other presidents, he was rightfully considered a long-liver, he lived to be 100 years old. 9 years ago he was diagnosed with cancer - melanoma of the liver, but doctors managed to defeat it. Five years before his death, he suffered a broken pelvis, and then fell again, also with fractures. And he spent the last two years in a hospice.
Carter was the President of the United States from 1977 to 1981.
During his presidency in 1979, the United States and the Soviet Union signed the SALT II Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty, the signing of which was sealed by the famous "kiss" between Carter and the General Secretary of the USSR Leonid Brezhnev.
In 1980, at the height of the Cold War, he was the one who announced the boycott of the Moscow Olympics. In 2002, Carter received the Nobel Peace Prize for peacekeeping after his presidency.
Physical activity helped him live to such a venerable age. The former president ran until he was 80, then, when it became too hard, he walked and swam a lot. By the way, at 62 he mastered skiing. So it's never too late to learn something new.
He was also extremely lucky with his wife, he was married to Rosalyn Smith for 77 years, and Carter himself said that marrying Rosalyn was the best thing he ever did.
They had 4 children. Carter outlived his wife by only a year. He will be buried next to her in the plot next to their house.
