113-year-old Skoda sports car wants to be sold for only 150 thousand dollars (17 photos)

In February 2025, an original sports car called Laurin & Klement Type S2 Sportswagen will be put up for auction. In 1911, it was built in Bohemia by Vaclav Laurin and Vaclav Klement, who are considered the founders of the Skoda brand. The Type S2 has an unusual engine compartment configuration for its time and an active aerodynamic element at the stern. Only one copy of this model has survived to this day, for which it is planned to receive from 100 to 150 thousand dollars.





The Laurin & Klement Type S2 Sportswagen is equipped with a two-cylinder boxer engine, the characteristics of which are not disclosed. The unusually slanted design of the front of the car for this period is explained by the location of the radiator - it is located behind the power unit.

The first owner of the car, designed as a sports model, was the famous racer and experimenter of the early 20th century Baron Leo Haan. It was he who equipped the Type S2 with wheel caps and an unusual "fin" at the rear. The aerodynamic element is made of wood, covered with tarpaulin and has a mechanical connection with the steering, moving synchronously with the turns of the wheels. In this way, the racer tried to combat the car's tendency to skid.

In addition to the baron, the rare sports car had only one private owner, who owned the car for about 40 years - until 1964, when the Type S2 Sportswagen was transferred to the museum. It is especially noted that although the sports car was sometimes repainted, it never underwent a comprehensive restoration and essentially looks now as at the time of its first start.
