Electric cars have become more reliable, but they are still a long way from traditional cars (2 photos)
The authoritative publication Consumer Reports has published another rating of the reliability of cars produced over the past three years. In the overall standings, the top three were Subaru, BMW and Lexus, and among electrified vehicles, experts noted the improvement in the performance of electric cars and plug-in hybrids, although they still do not reach the level of cars with internal combustion engines.
The Subaru brand has displaced the BMW brand from the leading position, which took first place in the Consumer Reports rating last year. Lexus moved up two lines, but, as experts note, mainly due to the deterioration of the results of Porsche and Honda, which took fourth and fifth place. It is noted that compared to 2023, Audi and Infiniti cars have significantly increased in reliability. Among the brands whose indicators have worsened, Buick and Cadillac are named. The latter suffered due to low ratings for the Lyriq electric car.

Experts do not recommend purchasing cars from Alfa Romeo, Dodge, Land Rover, Jeep and Rivian, which were at the bottom of the list. A total of 32 brands were assessed.
In general, plug-in hybrids were found to have 70% more problems than cars with internal combustion engines. Despite the significant difference, this is a noticeable improvement compared to last year, when the gap was 146%. In the case of electric cars, the 2023 study found a 79% reliability discrepancy, now the result has increased to 42%.
The BMW i4, Tesla Model 3 and Model Y were named among the relatively reliable electric cars, while the owners of the BMW iX, Audi Q8 e-tron, Kia EV6 and Chevrolet Blazer encountered the maximum number of problems.
