Incredible fishing caught lightning of the seas
The scimitar fish is a real sea monster! Its length can reach several meters. This fisherman caught one of the most unusual fish in the world.
The scimitar fish, or trachyurus (Latin: Trichiurus lepturus), is an inhabitant of the deep seas, distinguished by its elongated, sabre-like body shape. This predatory fish belongs to the trachyuridae family and is found in the warm and temperate waters of the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans.
The main features of the scimitar fish are its long and thin body, reaching two meters, and its silvery color, giving it a shiny metallic appearance. It is practically scaleless, and its fins are small and located along the body, which makes it fast and maneuverable. The scimitar fish has a large mouth with sharp teeth, thanks to which it hunts small fish, squid and crustaceans.
These fish are nocturnal and often rise to the surface of the water at night, and during the day they descend to a depth of 1000 meters. Due to its aggressiveness and agility, the scimitar fish is considered a successful predator. However, it is also caught on an industrial scale: the meat of the scimitar fish is valued for its delicate taste and low fat content.
