The Donnelly family story inspires millions of people around the world, proving that simple habits can prolong life and maintain health.
The Donnelly family from Northern Ireland made history by becoming the oldest family in the world. In 2017, 13 siblings with a combined age of 1,075 years were listed in the Guinness Book of Records.
The main factor that unites the members of this large family is the complete rejection of alcohol. According to one of the brothers, Leo Donnelly, there is no one in their family who drinks, which certainly played a role.
Experts from the UK National Health Service (NHS) confirm that giving up alcohol helps reduce the risk of high blood pressure, improves sleep quality and increases energy levels. It also helps maintain healthy blood sugar levels and improves the absorption of important nutrients.
The Donnellys' longevity is due not only to their abstinence from alcohol, but also to their active lifestyle. They all worked on the family land since childhood, grew apples and actively played Gaelic football.
The family adheres to a simple and healthy diet, including home-grown apples, porridge and local produce. Oatmeal plays a special role in their diet, which they eat twice a day.
"We always followed my father's tradition of eating a bowl of porridge before bed. Porridge at about 10 p.m., and again for breakfast in the morning," Leo said.
The publication notes that the Donnellys have become not only a symbol of longevity, but also an example of how a healthy lifestyle can affect the quality of life. The eldest sister Maureen, who was 93 at the time of the recording, noted: "We are still as healthy as we were at 50 or 60. We have not changed, we are as if in the land of youth."
