Swedish Minister for Gender Equality Paulina Brandberg suffers from bananaphobia, Expressen reports. Officials ensure that this fruit is not present at events where she is participating.
For example, one email states that "there should be no traces of bananas in the room" due to Brandberg's "severe allergy." Another message about an upcoming meeting states: "Bananas are not allowed."
The minister herself spoke about her peculiarity back in 2020. "I have the strangest phobia in the world - a fear of bananas," she wrote on her X page. According to the official, she even "sought professional help" to solve this problem.
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson noted that Brandberg's phobia did not affect the work of the government in any way.
"I have the utmost respect for people suffering from various phobias," the politician said. "It bothers me when a 'hardworking minister' is almost reduced to a phobia, and people laugh at it. I think you should be above it."
