10 scary movie characters who are not villains at all (11 photos)
Sometimes even neutral guys and good guys from movies can cause goosebumps and anxiety - due to their appearance, unnatural manners or mysterious role in the plot. Such heroes can be completely harmless in essence, but their presence causes a feeling of uneasiness and anxious anticipation in the audience, as if something should go wrong. Often, creators deliberately show them like this in order to surprise us with their harmless essence later.
Marley
From the movie "Home Alone" (1990).
A dangerous-looking old man with a crazy look (and even with a shovel) scared not only Kevin, but us too. However, he later reveals himself as a kind person with a complicated history, who even helps Kevin at a crucial moment, destroying the erroneous stereotypes about his image.
Bump
From the cartoon "Finding Nemo" (2003).
Marlin and Dory, of course, have a lot of problems, but at the same time, in the whole vast ocean, they managed to stumble upon sharks... vegetarians! Yes, their meeting did end in a dangerous interaction (don't throw blood around in the presence of sharks, you have to be more careful!), but we must note that Bugor, his comrades and their principle "Fish are not food, but friends" are a positive example for all inhabitants of the ocean.
The Incredibly Deadly Viper
From the film "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events" (2004).
It turned out to be as deadly as a cute puppy, and it received such a name solely for the sake of a joke. Because of this paradox, one of the plans of the real villain of this film, Count Olaf, was spoiled.
Skrulls
From the Marvel Cinematic Universe and specifically from the movie "Captain Marvel" (2019).
The Skrulls, initially seen as a threat due to their ability to take on the appearance of others, appear as insidious and dangerous aliens. But the viewer soon learns that they are just refugees trying to protect their people from genocide.
Birdwoman
From the movie "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York" (1992).
A lonely, silent woman in shabby clothes, surrounded by many pigeons in Central Park, where Kevin met many creepy inhabitants before her. But, as it turns out, this heroine is kind, warm-hearted, and she, of course, has her own sad story.
Here the creators of the film simply repeated the image of Marley from the first part, making Kevin's assistant another frightening character at first glance.
Sid's Toys
From the cartoon "Toy Story" (1995).
A strange, creepy creature assembled by Sid from parts of other toys stands out especially. However, it later turns out that she and the other "mutated" toys are not evil at all, but on the contrary, friendly and ready to help.
Kira
From the movie "The Sixth Sense" (1999).
She is the author of the scariest screamer of this movie, and in general one of the most frightening moments in the history of horror films. However, the main character Cole learns that this is the spirit of a dead girl who was poisoned by her stepmother. With the help of Kira, the heroes save her sister from the same fate.
Nax
From the movie "Mad Max: Fury Road" (2015).
Initially one of the "warriors" of the citadel, loyal to the army of Immortan Joe. With his pale skin, aggressive behavior and blind faith in the cult of war, he seems like a dangerous psychopath, but soon reveals a different side. Having gone through many trials with Max and Furiosa, Nux shows that, despite the gloomy surroundings, he is capable of heroism, selflessness and loyalty to his new team.
Ludo
From the movie "Labyrinth" (1986).
He is large, covered in fur, with menacing horns and a deep voice. However, despite his formidable appearance, he has a gentle and friendly nature and values friendship above all else. This good-natured giant eventually turns out to be a loyal ally to Sarah and shows strength and tenderness, helping her on her way through the labyrinth.
Sirius Black
From the film "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" (2004).
It's hard to remember, but one of the most prominent positive characters in the entire Harry Potter franchise was portrayed as a deranged prisoner who betrayed Harry's parents and now wanted to get to Harry himself, killing anyone he met along the way. And his dirty rock-n-roll appearance as an escapee from Azkaban works to this image. It's only later that we learn that Sirius is a sweetheart, and the traitor in this story is someone else.
