I present to you a selection of interesting and colored photographs that were taken throughout the 20th century in the countries of Great Britain.

London Underground in 1940.

During the bombings of German pilots, children slept in hammocks thrown between the rails. The Germans bombed the city every night for two months in a row, and then for another year and a half, not every night, but often. So the children sleep in the underground, which was used as a bomb shelter.

George Bennie's experimental Railplane, Scotland, 1923.

The "Railplane" was a design similar to a modern monorail. However, unlike a monorail, this "transport of the future" had two rails - one above and one below. It was driven by aircraft engines with propellers (hence the name).

It was assumed that special rails for it would be installed above regular railways and "rail planes" would carry passengers, and steam locomotives - cargo. The estimated speed of the "plane" was more than 200 kilometers per hour.
