Chinese Man Gets Rid of His Belongings and Travels with Paralyzed Mom on His Back (2 Photos + 1 Video)
If anyone deserves the title of "son of the year," it's 31-year-old Xiao Ma from China. He sold his possessions to travel the country with his paralyzed mother, carrying her on his back, just as she did with him when Ma was a baby.
Xiao Ma was eight years old when his parents were in a terrible car accident that killed his father and left his mother paralyzed. From then on, Ma and his older sister took care of not only themselves, but also their mother, who was later diagnosed with cerebral atrophy.
Growing up, Ma worked in the cotton fields, gained knowledge in various fields, and eventually opened his own restaurant in Xinjiang. He spent most of his earnings on his mother's recovery. Gradually, she was able to leave the bed that had been her prison for many years, sit in a wheelchair, and even take a few small steps.
However, a few years ago, Ma received the devastating news that his mother's cerebral atrophy was not only incurable, but was also steadily worsening. So he decided to make the most of the time he had with his mother. Instead of focusing on his business, Xiao Ma sold his house and car to have money for travel, and now he travels around China with his mother. Her regressing brain is comparable to that of a small child, so Ma wants to spend as much time with her as possible while she can still cherish these moments.
The family has visited Mount Tianshan, Lake Tianchi and other places in China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, as well as Tiananmen Square in Beijing and the Great Wall of China. The elderly woman can no longer speak, but she always smiles when the family travels. And that's enough for her loving son, who says she was sad when she was bedridden.
"Love doesn't wait, filial piety is never late, and action is the best answer. "My mother carried me when I was a child, and now I carry her," says Xiao Ma.
People who met Ma with his mother on his back got to know him and took photos of the couple. And these photos quickly went viral on Chinese social media. Now millions of people in China admire the man's story. And when asked when he is going home, he answers: "Home is where my mother is." And he adds that he does not want to live with regrets about his mother's last years on this Earth.
