McLaren has unveiled its new flagship model. The W1 hypercar will be the third in the line of cars with the number 1 in the index after the F1 and P1: thus, the developers emphasize its exclusivity. The W1 power plant develops 1275 horsepower, which allows it to reach 200 km/h in 5.8 seconds - this is a record result for road McLaren. Only 399 of these cars will be assembled at a price of 2.1 million dollars, but they have already been sold out.

The power plant is based on a four-liter turbocharged V8 with a capacity of 929 horsepower. The company calls the engine, which can spin up to 9,200 rpm, completely new and claims a record for specific power.

The electric component uses technologies used in the IndyCar and Formula 1 racing cars. The British managed to develop a more powerful and lighter unit than the one used in the P1, but in order to save weight, they still abandoned the all-wheel drive system that was planned for the model. In addition, an ultra-compact 1.384 kWh battery is used, with which the new car will travel only 2.6 kilometers on electric traction. The electric motor is also responsible for reversing, although the power steering and braking system are retained hydraulic.

1275 hp and 1340 Nm allow the hypercar, weighing 1.4 tons, to accelerate to 100 km/ h in 2.7 seconds with a maximum speed of 350 km/ h. The McLaren W1 will cover a quarter mile in less than 10 seconds, and accelerate to 300 km/ h in 12.8 seconds. The new product turned out to be 3 seconds faster than the track-oriented McLaren Senna on the track in Nardo.

The McLaren W1 is equipped with many active aerodynamic elements, including, for example, a splitter, wing elements and a rear wing that can work as an air brake. In track mode, it extends back by 300 millimeters, expanding the working area of the diffuser. In addition, the bottom of the hypercar generates a ground effect. The front axle can have up to 350 kilograms of downforce, the rear axle - up to 650 kilograms. The company noted that a number of aerodynamic solutions were spied on by the company's sports division: they are intended for use of the W1 on race tracks.
