In the Netherlands, 100 schools feed children insects (2 photos + 1 video)
This is an amazing saving, because you don't need huge farms and fields to breed beetles and worms.
A year ago, an unusual experiment was conducted in a hundred schools in the Netherlands. Insects were included in the menu for schoolchildren. Fortunately, there are no worms in the food. The dishes look no different from traditional salads, ham rolls and casseroles. However, mealworms are added to the dishes. At first, the children were wary, but then they started eating. They noted that the dishes tasted like nuts. A year later, this type of food was finally introduced in schools.
The goal of such an experiment is to move to new types of food and offer children a meat substitute. Since such insect dishes contain a lot of protein, the management of educational institutions intends to officially include them in the menu as an alternative to meat.
Mealworms reproduce well in captivity. All you need is a container and bran. The worms dry quickly. You can even make flour from them.
