The water element has always caused fear and awe in people. And if we take into account the fact that the World Ocean has been studied only by about five percent, then this horror of the depths still worries humanity. After all, no one knows what they hide. In this post you will see impressive and disturbing images of the majestic ocean.

1. Underwater photographer Matty Smith has won second place in the 2022 UK competition for his image “Great White”. He captured the shark off the Neptune Islands, South Australia

11. Grand Turk is an island in the Caribbean Sea, one of two islands in the archipelago Turks

12. Of all the unusual creatures in the ocean, giant pyrosomes are certainly among the strangest

The long tube in the photo is a single pyrosome. But it is made up of many organisms called zooids. This free-swimming colony was discovered in 2011 by Michael Baron of Eaglehawk Dive Australia while diving off the coast of Tasmania.

14. Bottomless Lake, Solnechnogorsk, Moscow Region

In March 2018, work was carried out to study the relief of the lake bottom using modern equipment and gear. When diving to a depth of 4.5 meters, divers discovered a so-called "false bottom" - a layer of mechanical compaction due to the saturation of water with organic and mineral silt particles. In the diary of Alexander Blok, there is an entry in which the poet literally retells the words of a local forester, who told him about the connection of the lake with the ocean and about mysterious finds like shipwrecks that were thrown ashore.

15. Infinity, Martin Strmiska, Puerto Morelos, Mexico
