In Romania, a woman propped up doors for years with a piece of amber worth a million euros (3 photos)
The nugget's value would never have been known if it hadn't been for the thieves who tripped over it when they broke into the pensioner's house. 
A pensioner from the village of Colci, Romania, brought home a lump weighing about 3.5 kg several decades ago. All this time, the woman used it to prop up the door and did not even guess the real value of the find.
It is noted that black amber (a semi-precious stone) is quite common in this Romanian region. Its market value is over a million euros, and its age is about 70 million years.
No one would have known about the nugget's value if it had not been for the thieves who broke into the pensioner's house one day and stole her jewelry. As they were running away, they tripped over a stone near the door, causing a chip to appear on it. 
The thieves later sold the amber, which in 1991 became the property of the state and added to the collection of the museum in Buzeu. After the nugget fell into the hands of the authorities, laboratory analysis confirmed its authenticity. In addition, the conclusion was also approved by specialists from the Krakow Historical Museum, which has a separate department dedicated to the study of this stone.
"Black amber from Romania is so different from others that it was even given the name "Rumunite" by geologist Oskar Helm to distinguish it from other types. Residents of the Colci commune area believe that pieces of amber that they find in their mountains bring good luck, and they keep them in their homes," the report says.
