In Germany, a man who found a check for 4.6 million euros was thanked with gummy bears (4 photos)

A German man who found a lost check worth €4.6 million in the name of Sweet giants Haribo has told how the firm rewarded him with a box of its marmalades worth around £6.





Anuar G., 38, from Frankfurt, noticed a huge check on the train platform while returning home after visiting his mother.

When he told the company about his discovery, they sent him a small gift, a gesture that Anuar described as "a little cheap."

It’s not hard to imagine how surprised Anuar was when he saw the check for €4,631,538.80.



He told local media: "There was such a large sum on it that I couldn't even pronounce it."

The receipt was reportedly issued by supermarket group Rewe to the sweet makers but was somehow lost at the station.

Anuar contacted Haribo about his discovery and was contacted by one of their lawyers.

According to local media, instead of asking him to return it, they told him to destroy the check and send him a photo as proof.

He obediently complied and a few days later received a box from Haribo, which contained only six bags of their sweets, which are usually sold in stores in Europe for 1 euro each.





As it turns out, Anuar is unimpressed because he believes he saved the company millions.

He said: "I thought it was a bit cheap."

In turn, Haribo told local media: "Since it was a personal check, no one other than our company could use it."

They added: "This was our standard package that we send as a token of gratitude."

Founded in 1920 by a German with just a bag of sugar and a handful of equipment, Haribo has grown into a global confectionery company with revenues of about 1.7 billion euros a year.
