Another rosy hope was destroyed by the merciless invisible hand of the market.

The famous American motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson made a statement on August 19 that the company no longer supports the DEI (diversity, equity, inclusion) program, which involves ensuring quotas for national minorities, as well as supporting equality and inclusion.

In addition, the company said that it will review and probably refuse partnership and sponsorship agreements with organizations that promote non-traditional values. The company has already confirmed that it will no longer sponsor LGBT festivals and collaborate with the Human Rights Campaign, which actively advocates for the protection of the rights of sexual minorities.

"We are saddened by the negativity on social media over the past few weeks aimed at dividing the Harley-Davidson community. We have not used the DEI program since April 2024, and today we do not have a DEI program. We do not have hiring quotas, and we no longer have a dedicated budget for supplier diversity," the company said in a statement.

The media reports that the market, that is, a drop in sales, forced the company to abandon the DEI program. However, the company's management was forced to make a public statement by director and political activist Robbie Starbuck. At the end of July, he issued a call on social networks and called on Americans to refuse products from Harley-Davidson and other companies that spend money on implementing meaningless DEI programs and supporting LGBT communities. Starbuck was supported by many Americans, including Elon Musk.

The story with Harley-Davidson is far from the only one. The invisible hand of the market has already punished Microsoft, agricultural retailer Tractor Supply and machinery manufacturer John Deere. Earlier, the funniest incident happened with the beer maker Bud. After a highly questionable advertising campaign, this foamy drink is no longer the best-selling drink in America.
