Venezuelan cyclist Daniela Larreal Chirinos was found dead in her Las Vegas apartment. According to media reports, the 50-year-old athlete choked on food and died.

Chirinos was a five-time Olympian, representing her country in Barcelona (1992), Atlanta (1996), Sydney (2000), Athens (2004), and London (2012). However, earlier this month, the Venezuelan died.

The athlete lived in exile after criticizing the Venezuelan government, working in a Las Vegas hotel. Concerned colleagues contacted the police when she did not respond to calls. Daniela's body was found on August 16, the cause of death was asphyxia.

During the autopsy, solid food was found in the trachea, indicating that the woman choked and suffocated.

Despite being one of the most decorated athletes in Venezuela, Chirinos has never won an Olympic medal. She won silver at the 1990 Central American Games and two more silver medals at the 2003 Pan American Games.

The most successful in her career were the 2002 Central American and Caribbean Games, where she won three gold medals and one silver. She won two gold medals at the 2011 Pan American Games, in the keirin and team sprint.

Daniela continued to compete until 2014, when she added gold in the sprint and team sprint at the South American Games.
