BMW has announced a major recall in the United States. It affects 720,796 vehicles of several models. There is a risk of short circuits that could cause a fire.
The campaign affects some models produced between 2012 and 2017, including the BMW X1, X3, X4 and 5-Series sedans. The cars are equipped with a water pump, due to insufficient sealing, it can leak onto the electrical connector on the pump. This can cause a short circuit and increase the risk of fire.
According to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, BMW has already been notified of 18 corresponding complaints from its customers. It is specified that there are no data on accidents that could have been caused by the malfunction.
Authorized dealers of the brand will inspect, replace the water pump and connector if necessary, and install a protective screen to prevent further problems. All repairs will be performed free of charge for car owners.
Due to a similar problem, BMW has already recalled almost 400 thousand cars in the United States in July. In addition, in early August, BMW announced a recall in the United States of almost 106 thousand cars due to the risk of fire when the starter overheats. This problem affected cars of 2019-2021, including the X7, X6, X5 models. All cars will be checked and troubleshooting will be carried out at BMW service centers free of charge.
