Crossovers can roll away even if the gearbox selector is in “parking”.
Hyundai has announced a recall of the current generation Santa Fe crossovers. On cars of the 2024 model year with a robotic gearbox, potential problems were detected in its software.
Software failures, according to Hyundai, cause the robot’s clutches to spontaneously engage. This, in turn, can damage the box body or parking clamp, which significantly increases the risk of an accident.
It is alleged that the recall campaign was the result of numerous reports that crossovers continue to move even when the gearbox selector is moved to the Park position. Hyundai said there were 45 known such incidents that occurred in less than a month, from June 3 to June 27, but insisted there were no accidents or injuries.
In total, 12.3 thousand cars will be recalled in the United States and about 800 in Canada. The control software of the box on the cars will be corrected, and if it is already broken, the unit will be replaced with a new one free of charge.
