In the US, a deaf gastroenterologist received a fine after "accidentally" bullying patients (4 photos)
Not only was he fined, but he was also banned from doing what he loved for the entire probationary period.
A man with the sonorous name of Ishwari Prasad has been working as a gastroenterologist in Florida for 34 years. Recently, due to age-related changes, he began to lose his hearing, so much so that he had to use a hearing aid to continue working.
But one fateful day, everything went wrong for Ishwari.
At first, he forgot his hearing aid at home, but decided not to go back, and pretend that he could hear everything just fine. But, as luck would have it, during the patient's appointment, Ishvari did not wait for the anesthesia to take effect and began to perform a colonoscopy.
The patient was not one of the masochists and began to complain, but the doctor simply could not hear what he was muttering.
When the assistant intervened, Ishvari only snapped at him, saying that he knew better what to do. But the patient did not appreciate the doctor's zeal and wrote an angry complaint to the doctor.
A Tampa outpatient surgery center where a hard-of-hearing doctor tortured his patients.
"Prasad did not immediately stop the procedure," the complaint against the doctor says. "Moreover, the gastroenterologist continued to insert the colonoscope into the patient's intestines while the patient screamed in pain."
During the debriefing, the doctor was also reminded of violations when he instructed an unlicensed assistant to see patients.
Another of Prasad's patients detailed an eerily similar experience she says she had back in 2018. Her pain medication wore off mid-session, and she also couldn't get through to the doctor.
One of the victims.
A Florida court fined Prasad $7,500 and banned him from performing colonoscopies while he was on probation. The doctor tried to appeal the ruling, calling all of the patients' complaints "false," but the court was adamant.
