Australian watch with a surprise (7 photos + 1 video)
Every hour, a secret compartment falls out of this colossal, but pocket-sized watch, revealing another wonderful surprise to the world.
This giant gilded pocket watch was presented to Melbourne, Australia, in honor of the opening of the largest shopping complex, Melbourne Central, in 1991. The miracle of technology is located at a height of more than 12 meters and, as it should be, counts the time. But that's not all.
Every hour, a secret compartment slowly descends from the inside, revealing an exhibition of golden puppets and Australian wild birds. One puppet plays the flute, another the violin, while rosy-cheeked lovebirds and white cockatoos sit and intently perform their part - a funny variation of "Waltzing Matilda" - an Australian song called the unofficial anthem of Australia.
If you go up to the next level, you can see the back panel of the clock with a surprise, where two koalas swing from side to side as part of the timekeeping mechanism.
Originally, the clock also had a solid chain more than 3.5 meters long, hanging from the upper floors. But it was never returned to its place after the renovation. Which, however, did not particularly affect the functionality and charm of the watch with a surprise.
