A crocodile dragged an Australian away in front of his family (4 photos + 1 video)
A 40-year-old man fell victim to the reptile while fishing in the Annan River, Queensland, on August 3. At about 2:00 p.m., the 4.9m-long crocodile dragged him underwater, with the victim's wife and children witnessing the tragedy. 
On Monday, rangers shot the predator dead, after which they sent its carcass to police. During the autopsy, human remains were found. The results of the examination are not yet known, but the search and rescue operation has been called off. 
Following the incident, videos emerged of crocodiles being fed in the Annan River. The Queensland Department of Environment and Science expressed concern about the situation and appealed to residents: "Feeding crocodiles in Queensland is illegal and anyone with information about such violations is asked to call 1300 130 372." 
"Feeding crocodiles on the beach or dock encourages them to hang around in anticipation of their next meal. This could put future visitors at much greater risk of attack if they get too close to the water."
The site where the Australian died is teeming with reptiles.
A Cooktown resident claims the crocodile associated humans with food because it was regularly fed.
"People would throw him scraps of food and he would sit there 15ft under the water waiting to be fed," he told the Cairns Post. "It had rained and the bank was soft and he could have fallen through. It's a terrible tragedy, everyone is worried about the family and to see it happen is just unthinkable."
