The killer nicknamed El Diablo (The Devil) was tracked down thanks to his social media presence.
Almost 20 years ago, then 52-year-old Antonio Riano, nicknamed El Diablo (The Devil), shot and killed 25-year-old bar patron Benjamin Bessera during an argument in a suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio. Riano then left his wife and three children in Ohio and fled to Mexico.
For many years, the killer was considered one of the most wanted criminals not only in the state, but in the entire country. And, as it turned out, all these years he worked as a policeman in his native Mexican city of Zapotitlan Palmas, because "he wanted to help the people of Mexico."
Riano even began sharing information about his life on social networks, which eventually helped to track him down. One of the police officers who was searching for the killer back in the mid-2000s decided to simply google his name in January 2024.
And this gave a result: Riano's Facebook page was found. Afterwards, the American police passed the request to their Mexican colleagues, and on August 1 they handed over the killer to them. Now he faces life imprisonment.
