An incorrect diagnosis saved a Chinese man from a cough (3 photos)
The man had been coughing for two years for some unknown reason, and he tried everything he could to get rid of the annoying ailment. And the cough had worn him out so much that he went to the hospital.
A 54-year-old Chinese man named Xu from Zhejiang Province sought help at the thoracic surgery department of Zhejiang Hospital complaining of a persistent cough. The medications did not help him, and during the examination, doctors discovered a tumor no less than a centimeter in his lung.
They couldn't figure out what had appeared in the lung and diagnosed it as cancer. They didn't wait and decided to cut out this mysterious, clearly malignant tumor to be on the safe side. But during the operation, the surgeons were in for a surprise.
Luo Jing, a thoracic surgeon from Zhejiang Hospital, explained that the operation was initially aimed at obtaining a sample of lung tissue to determine the nature of the tumor. But instead of a tumor, they found a piece of chili pepper in the man's lung.
The pepper was safely removed. After the patient came to, he said that he had indeed choked and coughed two years ago, and that was probably when the pepper got into his lung. Now the pepper lover is doing well and is recovering.
Head of the hospital's respiratory medicine department Ye Jian said that they often find foreign objects inside patients, such as animal bones, earrings, and even dentures.
