After takeoff, she dived and crashed into the ground.
The Tianlong-3 launch vehicle was tested in Henan Province, China. Its characteristics are similar to the Falcon 9 from Elon Musk’s SpaceX: a diameter of 3.8 m and a take-off weight of 590 tons. It was developed by the aerospace company Tianbing Technology; the spacecraft was created to provide satellite Internet in the Middle Kingdom.
More than 4 billion yuan ($552 million) were spent on creating the rocket.
After launch, the rocket system turned off and it crashed to the ground.
Chinese media report that the accident occurred due to a faulty design of the connection between the rocket body and the test stand.
The test site is located near the city of Gongyi.
The authorities secured themselves in advance and evacuated the entire population in the area. Therefore, there were no casualties, even though the rocket fell 1.5 km from the launch pad.
