In a village with 46 residents, 30 candidates are fighting for power in the elections (3 photos)

In the picturesque village of Ingria, located near Turin (Italy), an unusual political drama has unfolded: about two-thirds of the residents are standing in the local elections - 30 out of 46 people (another 26 have registered to vote abroad). This led to the fact that even a mother and son were among the candidates in hostile camps.
Igor De Santis, 42, whose grandfather led Ingria for 30 years, has headed the administration since 2009. As he prepared to fight for a fourth term, he expected competition from 70-year-old Renato Poletto. However, the real surprise for the mayor was that his own mother, Milena Crosasso, who is running for the position of deputy in the elections of the new council on June 8-9, joined the opposition camp.
“I asked my mom to join me, but when she saw that Poletto’s list was mostly women, she decided to go with them,” De Santis explained.
Despite the bitter political confrontation, the family insists that this will not affect their relationship.
"Both my son and I want what's best for our community. This is an opportunity to express a woman's perspective without weakening family ties," Crossasso said.
By the way, the village of Ingria, located in the Soana Valley, faces problems typical of mountain settlements: depopulation, the difficulty of providing some services and difficulties with snow removal in winter. However, since 2022, when this picturesque corner was recognized as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, another hassle has been added - an influx of tourists from all over the world.
"There has been an incredible surge and we must deal with it. Our main goal is to preserve the beauty of Ingria," said the mayor, who remains optimistic about his chances of winning.
