The British Ambassador to Mexico jokingly pointed a rifle at a colleague and paid the price
British Ambassador to Mexico John Benjamin decided to play with military weapons and lost his post. The incident occurred in April of this year, but a video of a foreign ministry employee pointing a rifle at his colleague’s face appeared on social networks a few days ago.
It is noted that at the time of his rash act, John Benjamin was on official trips to the northern regions of the country (the states of Durango and Sinaloa), which are notorious for the active and inhuman activities of drug cartels.
The published video drew harsh criticism from both British and Mexican users. In the latter, more than 30 thousand people a year die at the hands of criminals, so the ambassador’s joke was not appreciated and was considered offensive and inappropriate.
The British Foreign Office refused to publicly comment on John Benjamin's action. A ministry spokesman said only that "appropriate action" had been taken in response to the incident. However, despite his resignation from the post of Ambassador of Mexico, Benjamin continues to work in the Foreign Office, the Financial Times newspaper notes.
