The akebi fruit, scientifically known as Akebia quinata, is native to Japan, China and Korea. It is part of the Lardizabalaceae family and is also called chocolate vine or five-leaved akebia. The fruit has a unique appearance, usually cylindrical in shape, and can grow to 10–15 cm (4–6 in) in length. It is known for its sweet and slightly tart flavor, which some compare to passion fruit or kiwi.
Akebi fruit is rich in various nutrients including vitamin C, zinc and vitamin B6. It also contains other important health benefits, such as boosting immune system health and potentially improving digestion. However, consuming too much can lead to digestive discomfort due to the high fiber content.
