In Brazil, a horse climbed onto the third floor of a residential building to escape a flood.
In the Brazilian city of San Leopoldo, a horse was rescued, which, fleeing the flood, hid in one of the residential buildings. The frightened animal was in the building, empty due to the flood, for 10 days.
15 rescuers took part in the seven-hour operation to save the animal, which found refuge from the raging elements in the building. Emergency workers had to sedate and blindfold the animal before bringing it down. When the descent was completed, members of the rescue team fed the starving mare.
The apartment building had previously been evacuated due to heavy rains that had hit the region since late April. A fire brigade spokesman told local media that the horse had climbed the stairs of the building to get to safety.
