A mysteriously missing ship with 14 crew members has finally been found. Photos show the well-preserved hull of the Adella Shores, which was lost more than a century ago in Whitefish Point, Michigan.

The steam-powered wooden vessel was built in Gibraltar, Michigan in 1894 by the Shores Lumber Company and weighed 735 tons.

Named after the owner's daughter, the ship was considered cursed because during launching the custom of breaking a bottle of wine on the bow of the ship was violated.

Not wanting the sailors to drink alcohol, Adella's sister, Bessie, christened the ship with a bottle of water.

Over the course of 15 years, the ship ran aground twice, but was returned to service. However, on May 1, 1909, he disappeared without a trace.

On April 29, a 60-meter ship loaded with salt set sail for Duluth, Minnesota. It followed the larger steamship Daniel J. Morrell, which was breaking through the thick ice to clear the way.

A strong wind hit the smaller Adella, she fell behind, and then completely disappeared from sight. Captain Daniel J. Morrell believed that the ship could have collided with an ice floe, damaged the hull and quickly sank.

In subsequent years, only a few fragments washed up on the shores, but the bodies of the sailors were never found.

Only 115 years later, the steamer was discovered at a depth of 200 m, 64 km northwest of the place where it was last seen.

Director of Marine Operations Darryl Ertel and his brother Dan found the Adella using sonar.

Ertel said: “I immediately knew it was Adella Shores when I measured its length because there were no other ships of that size in those waters.”

The Great Lakes are home to 10,000 ships.

The mystery of another “cursed” ship that sank in the Great Lakes was revealed only 350 years later.

The Griffin was built by French explorer René-Robert Cavelier de La Salle in 1679 with the goal of navigating uncharted waters where only canoes could navigate. It was at that time the largest ship in the Great Lakes, but that same year it disappeared without a trace with 6 sailors and a valuable cargo of furs.

For a long time there were rumors that Griffin was cursed by the prophet of the Iroquois tribe.

The wreck was found several years ago by divers Steve and Kathy Liebert. The probable cause of the crash is a prolonged storm.
