Cruise ship passengers spoke about what items are prohibited from being brought on board (5 photos)
John Heald, a representative of the cruise company Carnival Cruise Line, amused his subscribers on social networks. He told about a passenger whose portable washing machine was taken away upon boarding - for the duration of the trip, of course. But the fact itself! People in the comments shared their stories on this topic.
Cruise ships have strict rules about what you can and cannot bring on board. The “forbidden item” is confiscated and stored throughout the cruise in a special room called the Naughty Room (“Room for the Naughty,” “Room for the Naughty”).
John Heald shared the story of a passenger on one of the Carnival Valor flights about how he and his mother were summoned to such a room for trying to bring a washing machine on board, and this story greatly amused everyone.
A Kuppet portable washing machine looks something like this
“My mother and I were on the ship Valor in March,” said the passenger. We were called into the Naughty Room because we had a Kuppet portable washing machine in our big bag. We were treated like criminals and humiliated. I hope Carnival will be more responsive to people and spare them such humiliation."
According to Heald, after this incident, washing machines had to be added to the list of prohibited items on Carnival Cruise Line ships.
The suffering of a passenger who was sent to the Naughty Room on board the Carnival Cruise Line ship has become the subject of discussion on the Internet
John publicly addressed the passenger and apologized for the incident, assuring him that the company had no intention of humiliating anyone:
“I am very sorry this happened to you, but the team was doing their job and I assure you there was no intention to humiliate you. It just never occurred to anyone that you could bring a washing machine with you.”
He then moved on to the main point of his message, which was that portable washing machines would certainly not be allowed in passengers' luggage. And he invited social media users to share their stories about how they encountered the Room for the Naughty.
“Have you ever been told to go to the Naughty Room because there was something in your suitcase that shouldn't have been there? You can admit it to me here. Be healthy".
The answer was not long in coming! The post received more than 2.2 thousand comments and more than 2.1 thousand likes. People laughed as they recalled their embarrassing experiences on cruise ships. Here are some responses:
“In 2010, during our honeymoon, I packed plastic handcuffs in our luggage. We were sent to the Naughty Room. We were two innocent newlyweds and felt extremely awkward.”
“They took my blender for whipping protein shakes.”
“We went to this room once. We forgot to transfer the wine from our checked luggage to our carry-on luggage. Unfortunately, they still had the wine. But we still had a great time."
“We had a photo tripod in our luggage. It turned out that when scanned it is very similar to a hookah. We all laughed at the situation when we opened the suitcase. I didn’t feel any humiliation, everything was very polite and professional.”
“I had a dive knife in my dive bag and forgot about it. They took him away, but politely offered to take him with us when we went ashore on excursions. I always refused and collected it from security at the end of the cruise.”
"Well it's no big deal...we've been in the Naughty Room MANY times...no reason to be upset...just say 'I didn't know' and you can pick up your item when you get off the ship."
“It always amazes me what people want to take with them on a cruise ship. French presses, coffee pots, pillows, pools, mattress toppers..."
“I'm honestly surprised that anyone thinks it's a good idea to take a portable washing machine with them. But, in their defense, portable washing machines were not included in the list of prohibited items..."
“I’ve never been to the Naughty Room. I don’t even want to do laundry at home, and you certainly can’t force me to take a washing machine with me on vacation.”
Carnival Cruise Line, one of the world's largest cruise lines by passenger numbers, has a list of prohibited items on their cruise ships. In addition to items such as explosives, fireworks, drugs, weapons and flammable substances, the list includes scissors, handcuffs, self-balancing hoverboards, lasers, curtains, candles, helium balloons, wheeled shoes and even fish of any kind.
