A Reddit user asked, "What's the creepiest real-life death you've ever heard of?" - and received a huge number of responses. Many recalled the terrible cases of death that they heard about in the news, and some spoke about the misfortune that happened to their relatives or friends. All these stories have one thing in common - they are so amazing that people cannot forget them for a very long time.

1. “The teenage girl who went bungee jumping at the wrong time in Spain. Instead of 'No jump!' ("Don't jump") she heard 'Now jump!' ("Now jump")..."

“...The incident may not be the worst, but it is absolutely terrible and tragic.”

2. “A man named Jose Melena was cleaning an industrial furnace at work. His colleague, not knowing he was inside, filled the oven with tuna and turned it on...”

“...I just can’t imagine how terrible it is to know what’s about to happen to you.”

3. “In my province, a teenager was accidentally dumped with a truck full of hot asphalt for road repairs. He died instantly..."

“...They tried to dig him up anyway, and people got severe burns, although it was a waste of time and effort.”

4. “The guy I went to school with went for a walk in the forest. Being a child at heart, he decided to climb a tree to have fun. He fell and broke his back. But that’s not why he died...”

“...It was winter and it started snowing. He lay there, unable to move, and was slowly covered with snow. By the time he was found, he had died of hypothermia. This shit still eats at my brain sometimes. He was such a nice guy."

5. “Thirty years ago, a Greyhound bus overturned on the Gardiner Expressway in Toronto...”

“...The bus turned 90 degrees to the right. The passengers were crushed under the dirty, salt-covered barrier."

6. “A similar story happened just a month or two ago in Australia. The wedding party was taking place on a bus that flipped on its side, decapitating several people and killing a total of 10 people."

7. “In the mid-70s, my mother worked in one of the garment factories in the southern United States. They went on a break around 10 am and noticed a lineman working on a pole...”

“...At noon they went out for lunch and he was still there, but not moving. He grabbed a live wire and was fried on the spot. I had to wring his hands to get him down... It was the father of one of my school friends.”

8. “After the attack on Pearl Harbor, they raised the hull of one of the sunken battleships and discovered that in one of the partially filled compartments with water, a calendar was scratched on the wall...”

“...There was someone there who had been alive for almost two weeks and was hoping to be rescued.”

9. “I had a friend who was engaged to an underwater electrician or welder. This man sank so deep that he could even gouge out his eyes..."

“...In short, one day he sank to the bottom and never rose again. I don't remember if something exploded or if he died of shock, but I remember thinking how scary it must have been to die in such a terrible place."

10. “My cousin walked under a grain auger and got caught in it with the hood of his sweatshirt. He was sucked into the auger and decapitated before the mechanism could be turned off..."

“...My grandfather had to pull his head out of the auger. This happened more than 20 years ago. I was a child and didn’t see it myself.”

11. “Next door to me lived an old man who had trouble standing on his feet. One night he fell in front of an old electric heater next to his bed in the living room and could not get up again...”

“...The poor fellow was boiled alive. When paramedics arrived, they had to run out into the garden due to the urge to vomit; by all accounts it was terrible. The old man was taken to the hospital, but, unfortunately, he died there. He must have been lying in front of the heater for several hours.”

12. “The guy who was boiled alive at Yellowstone Spring. He jumped into it, although this is prohibited, and his sister recorded everything on her mobile phone. His body actually dissolved."

13. “In the Australian state of Victoria, some highways replace the standard solid barrier with “speed cables”, which consist of three cables stretched along the barrier...”

“...When I was driving to the university for the first time, it was raining, and a motorcyclist fell in front of me, hit these cables and exploded. His head flew about 50 meters before hitting the road. Pretty shitty stuff for a 19-year-old.”

14. “NASCAR driver Russell Lee Phillips died in 1995 after colliding with another car when his car rolled onto its right side and clipped its roof against a guardrail...”

“....His upper body was dragged and smeared along the entire fence. He was dismembered and beheaded."

15. “My parents. My father had a heart attack, fell into a tank used to water the animals on the farm, and drowned...”

“...Mom went to look for him, and, as investigators told us, she tried to pull him out, fell, hit her head and also drowned. They were 78 and 76 years old."

16. “I have repeatedly heard stories that during the First World War, wounded in the trenches, who were completely weak and immobilized, died because they were eaten alive by rats.”

17. “In the past there was such a punishment as being walled up alive inside a brick column or wall...”

“...I heard a story about a serial killer in the early 1900s. He was walled up in the corner of the building. People said they heard him screaming for mercy for three days before he fell silent. Imagine: inside a cold, damp, pitch-dark cell in which it is impossible to stand or sit. Most likely, it is infested with insects. No food, no water, no mercy. I imagine that he went mad before the second day was over, because he knew that death was the only salvation."

18. “An acquaintance of mine was flying his family to Florida from the Midwest for a Christmas trip to Disney on his private jet. He was flying in low-lying clouds when his engine stopped..."

“...He tried to start the engine several times, but he couldn’t. When he came out of the clouds, he found himself above the forest, where there was no way to glide to land, and he had to land the plane in the trees and hope for luck. The accident killed him, his wife and two of his three children. The only survivor was the youngest daughter, who walked two miles barefoot through the snow in late December to find help.

The worst thing for me is that this guy's plane had two separate fuel tanks. One in the left wing, the other in the right. The engine stalled because it lacked fuel. The pilot had been flying on one tank the entire flight up to this point, but he had another wing filled with fuel. He could have saved his family's life if he had simply followed the instructions that the pilots of this plane follow every day."

19. “The most horrific case I personally know of involved a man my father knew who was slowly sucked into an industrial fan.”

20. “I knew a guy (a friend’s older brother) who jumped off a 90-foot (27 m) cliff in Montana and landed on rocks at a popular river spot...”

“...He died instantly, and about 50 people witnessed this, including a bunch of my friends. It’s a good thing I was working that day, otherwise I would definitely have been there.”

21. “The woman in China who got stuck in an elevator for a month. When she was eventually found, there were scratches on the doors and her hands were bloody from trying to get out."

22. “The woman who was “eaten” by the escalator. Her legs fell through the panel when she almost reached the top..."

“...She threw her child to two shopping center employees standing at the exit of the escalator (they knew that something was wrong with the panel, but did not know how to stop the moving stairs). I haven’t seen any photographs of the aftermath, but I assume it was bad.”

23. “I think about that tourist who was eaten by a shark in Egypt. His father watched what was happening and saw his son being eaten piece by piece. At some point, he was completely turned upside down and dragged under the water... Cruel."

24. “A man from Vernon, British Columbia, was visiting his mother after his father's funeral. He tripped over his mother's open dishwasher door and fell straight onto the knives, which were pointing up."

25. “Twenty years ago in Toronto, a guy with a backpack on his back hesitated as he walked out the door at his subway stop. He stepped out onto the platform, but the doors slammed shut, leaving his backpack inside...”

“...The train continued to drag him along the platform and then crashed into the wall near the tunnel.”

26. “2016 Thunder River Rapids accident at Dreamworld in Queensland, Australia...”

“...Due to a mechanical failure, the water level dropped, the two rafts collided, and many passengers fell out or became trapped near the conveyor mechanism. Four people died. It happened in front of everyone and was incredibly creepy.”

27. “That cave diver who got stuck upside down in a cramped dead end was physically unable to get back out and subsequently died.”

Некоторые из смертей произошли от собственной же глупости...
