The shelter staff came up with a cute and unusual way to feed an orphaned fox cub that was picked up from the street. They put on a large fox mask so that the baby does not get used to people.
An employee at a wildlife center in Virginia, USA, came up with a cute and funny way to feed one rescued fox cub. The baby was less than a day old when he was found on the street - he was noticed by a man walking his dog. Since this is a wild fox cub, the employee decided to do everything to ensure that the baby does not get used to people. She now wears a fox mask when feeding him.
"This approach is designed to ensure that orphaned wild animals raised in captivity do not become accustomed to humans," says Melissa Stanley, executive director of the wildlife center.
Staff take turns feeding the baby fox milk every two to four hours while wearing gloves and a fox mask. They even try not to make sounds or talk so that the cub does not get used to “human” sounds, because when it grows up and recovers, it will be released back into the wild. In addition, the baby always has a little plush fox in his crib.
According to the staff, all these measures will not only increase the cubs' chances of survival in the wild, but will also allow them to reproduce more successfully. The center's staff also managed to find a den with three other cubs, but the whereabouts of the mother fox are still unknown.
