In these museums you will not find beautiful paintings, elegant sculptures and centuries-old cultural heritage of different countries. There's something there that will give some people goosebumps.
In fact, many people like to look at something that is prohibited or condemned by society. The exhibits from these museums are not for the faint of heart, but some may want to tickle their nerves.
Museum of Death (Los Angeles)
This is one of the most famous museums in the world; thousands of tourists come to it every year. Here you can look at paintings painted by serial killers, extremely rare burial artifacts and special tools for funeral service workers.
In the museum you can find items from the Charles Manson “family”, photos from crime scenes. One of the rarest and most famous exhibits is the shoes of the killer clown Pogo.
Mutter Museum of Medical History (USA, Philadelphia)
The museum is located in a college where future doctors are trained. It is very popular due to its unique collection of skulls, the most amazing sizes and shapes. In addition to skulls, you can also find other exhibits from the human body. The most impressive exhibit, perhaps, is the 12.5 cm long intestine.
Museum of Medieval Torture Instruments (Amsterdam)
Here you can see how inventive and cruel people were in the Middle Ages. The collection of the international exhibition “Punishments and Sentences in the Middle Ages” includes more than 40 instruments of punishment from different European countries. There is a guillotine, and chairs of the Inquisition... Everything is accompanied by comments in different languages.
Museum of Criminal Anthropology Lombroso (Italy, Turin)
In this museum you can see more than 400 human skulls. The founder of the museum, Lombroso, believed that various deviant behavior depended on the size and shape of the skull. There are skulls of soldiers, skulls of madmen, skulls of criminals. And even the skull of Lombroso himself.
In addition to heads, you can look at skeletons and images of autopsies.
UFO Museum (New Mexico)
At first glance, this structure looks like a novice student's fantasy, but it is truly an international museum and research center for the study of UFOs.
A lot of attention has been paid to studying the incident in the city of Roswell in 1947. It was as if a UFO was circling over the city at that time. The US government claims that these were simply mirages caused by the weather, but the founders of the museum are still confident that this is not the case.
Museum of Mummies (Guanajuato, Mexico)
In Guanajuato you can visit a museum where there are 111 mummies. All these bodies were buried during a very cheerful time when there was cholera in the city in 1833. Over time, the bodies began to be removed, since not all relatives of the dead could pay the tax for a place in the cemetery. This is how a special museum came into being.
Glor Psychiatric Museum (USA, St. Joseph)
In 1874, the State Psychiatric Home stood on the site of the museum. But in 1968, they decided to found a museum in its place. Needless to say, in the 19th century, methods of treating the mentally ill were more torture than help. For example: to make the patient tired, he was put in a huge squirrel wheel and forced to run for 48 hours straight.
Some patients were subjected to bloodletting because doctors thought they were crazy due to excess blood entering the brain. A number of patients were simply placed in ice water to put them into shock.
In the museum you can see the terrible methods that were used in medicine, equipment, and the displays show the nightmare that happened within the walls of the museum before.
