Why do the Chinese paint bulls (9 photos)

This is unexpected...beautiful! Artists paint powerful, large bulls with bright colors and compete to see who can do it better. One of the most enjoyable festivals in China that I would like to visit.

Why do you need to paint bulls?

This is connected (like everything in China) with an ancient legend. According to her, in Jiancheng, a tiger attacked several buffaloes. But overcoming even one bull is not an easy task, and these ones were very life-loving. Even torn to pieces and falling into the mud, they rose again and again.

The lady is leading her bull, and she’s wow - strong!

Black mud and scarlet blood mixed on the sides of one of the buffalos into an unexpected pattern that frightened the tiger. And he retreated into the forest.

So the drawing on the side saved the lives of the bulls. The locals, who realized this, now decided to constantly paint the bulls in order to protect them. Art, it turns out, saves us from death.

For a long time this was done to scare away predators. And then tourists noticed such a unique tradition and began to come to see the animals. Therefore, gradually a large festival was organized for them, where locals can show off their talent in unique art.

The bull itches, erasing the exquisite painting. Well, aren't you a bastard?

Do you remember the Indian who painted his dog to look like a tiger so that monkeys would be afraid of it? But a competition for painting dogs did not appear in India, only advertisements began to be attached to them.

Every time I can’t with this tiger tank!

Beauty (and bulls) will save the world

Now the festival is not just local, it is international. Most often, the same farmers come from Vietnam and Laos.

Foreign artists also want to paint the bull. In total, 50 of the strongest and most beautiful buffalos are usually selected for participants.

To prevent the spectacle from dragging on for too long, one buffalo is painted together by 3-6 artists as a team. Therefore, you need to agree on the concept in advance.

But the dark theme didn’t win, but it’s still cool. You can also turn a bull into a dragon!

Moreover, you need to be not only an artist, but also be able to handle animals. Be able to hold the bull in place so that it does not twitch or run away. So there is nothing for urban fashionistas here.

"Genius" holds the bull by the tail. How long until he gets kicked in the kneecap?

And in 2014, the festival was won by schoolchildren who tamed the bull amazingly quickly.

The team that created the most beautiful body art is given a reward of 17 thousand dollars.

And this is an Indian painting of a bull. China is better supplied with paints, and it’s expensive to buy many shades, too much for the Indians’ wallets
