The new Volkswagen Golf was declassified before the official premiere (20 photos)
Volkswagen plans to present a modernized version of the Golf family by the end of this month. However, photographs have already appeared on the Cochespias website, giving a complete picture of the changes in the exterior and interior of the serial hatch in the GTI and GTE versions: the portal claims that they were taken at a closed presentation.
The front bumper of the hatchback was redesigned, changing the filling of the air intakes and providing it with characteristic “fangs”. The head optics received a modified shape, new running lights and a diode strip along the edge of the hood. The “light signature” of the rear lights has also been rethought, and, judging by the photo, its pattern will depend on the configuration.
“Live” images of the interior, previously declassified by the company itself, have also been published. The Golf will get a large central display, and physical buttons will appear on the steering wheel instead of sensors.
There is no information yet about the engine range of the updated family. It is expected that it will generally remain the same, but power units can be upgraded to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.

Volkswagen nevertheless presented a new Golf model. The eighth generation of the most famous Volkswagen model, starting in 2019, now officially has an index of 8.5. At the same time, external changes have been reduced to a minimum: the contour of the head optics has been subtly tightened (LED by default, matrix is optional), the internal pattern of the side lights has changed, the air intake in the bumper has been redrawn, the corporate logo has been illuminated, the choice of wheel rims and body color options has expanded.
The Golf's line of engines is traditionally extensive and includes not only gasoline and hybrid units, but even heavy fuel engines, which were ostracized after Dieselgate.
Entry-level 1.5-liter TSi engines produce 114–147 hp. s., available with a 6-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed DSG for mild hybrids with the same engine. The two-liter 201-horsepower TSi is combined with the robot without any alternative. The 1.0 in-line 3-cylinder unit, criticized since the start of sales of the eighth Golf, has ingloriously disappeared.
As for the plug-in hybrids with the same 1.5 TSi as the core, and this is the base 204-horsepower Golf eHybrid and the top-end 268-horsepower Golf GTE, their battery capacity has increased from 10.6 to 19.7 kWh, which has a corresponding impact on the range electric travel, which increased from 61 to 100 km. The charging process has also accelerated: to bring the energy level from 10 to 80%, it takes only 25 minutes. According to the automaker's estimates, with a fully charged battery and a full tank of gasoline, the Golf's plug-in range reaches 1,000 km without refueling.
The output of the Golf GTI's 2-liter petrol engine, which does not include an electrical add-on, has increased from the previous 242 to 262 hp. With. However, due to stricter environmental requirements, the hot hatch has lost its manual transmission and is now available exclusively with a 7-speed DSG. As for diesel versions with a 2-liter TDi, there are two of them, 114 and 147 hp. pp., paired with mechanics (junior) and DSG (senior).
Details about the loaded GTI Clubsport and Golf R hatchbacks and the associated estate will be announced later, as well as about the all-wheel drive Golf 4Motion 2.0 TSi.
The main innovation of the interior, with upholstery in fabric, leather or microfiber, is the return of physical keys. Due to numerous requests from golfers, the touch panels on the steering wheel are replaced with the usual scattering of buttons. The display of indicators on the 10.2-inch instrument panel can be customized to your own taste, while the maximum size of the multimedia screen dominating the center of the dashboard has increased to 12.9 inches (10 as standarde).
The voice assistant of all Golf models without exception is now equipped with the Chat GPT artificial intelligence function, which means that the car will answer the driver’s questions much more consciously and comprehensively than before.
European sales of the updated Volkswagen Golf 8.5 will start in the spring.
