A gym the size of a bus stop is a unique solution in Singapore (7 photos)
Is there a gym near your home for working out? Or is it too far to travel? But Singaporeans can no longer say that they are too far away. Because the city began to install mini-gyms the size of a bus stop on every corner.
What kind of building is this
The micro-exercise machine is called the Gym Pod, and it is easy to spot from afar due to its bright yellow coloring. A treadmill, several weights, and a barbell are very tightly placed inside. The maximum area of such a Jim Pod is 18 square meters. By the way, we have warm stops with kiosks - from 20 sq. meters.
At the same time, an hour of classes in such a “hall” costs 11 dollars (there are more expensive ones in popular places up to 15 dollars). But Singapore itself is an expensive city, so the price is reasonable.
In total, 55 such points were placed around the city near parks or gas stations. What seems strange is why there is a treadmill next to the park? Wouldn't it be more logical to place them in residential areas?
Looks very compact, so as not to be confused with a public toilet
So, is everyone stuffed like herring in a barrel?
Everything is very technological. You need to download the Gym Pod app and see if there are any openings for booking a gym. That is, one person makes a reservation for an hour. But you can invite a trainer or study there together with a friend; no one checks how many people will come to study.
To be honest, it would be a bit cramped for just the two of us...
In the application you can search where the equipment you need is. It was unrealistic to put everything in one capsule, because in one place there is a track, in another an exercise bike, and there are exercise machines for arms or legs.
And in each there is a TV that shows videos on how to use this equipment. So there is no point in inviting a coach.
Different "stops" are named differently depending on the inventory set
Damian Chow invented Singapore gyms for one, and did not prosper too much in 2018 until... the pandemic happened! All businesses collapsed, workers were fired, but the capsule gym for one became incredibly popular.
While other halls were closed to prevent the spread of infection, in this one you could be 100% isolated. The main thing is to have time to intercept the reservation that was simply being hunted.
And this is a big cheap gym. Many people hate being overcrowded and the fact that people come up with their useless advice
Now there is no such excitement, but people have already relearned and appreciated how convenient it is to have your own gym for an hour, where no one stares at you or judges you for doing something wrong. This is one of the fears why many refuse to buy a membership even to a gym near their home.
Moreover, the middle class of Singapore can afford $11, and according to statistics, the poor are too busy at work to have time to go to the gym. So from an economic point of view, everything is more than smart.
Our stops even take up more space. But we are not Singapore, there is a lot of space
