Lotus released a bicycle for the price of a car (7 photos)
British sports car manufacturer Lotus showed a new model with the index Type 136. This is an electric bicycle that weighs less than 10 kilograms. Lotus plans to sell the two-wheeler for at least 20 thousand pounds, while for 20.7 thousand in Britain you can buy a new Hyundai i20 or VW Polo.
The low weight of the bicycle is explained primarily by the extensive use of carbon fiber plastics - for example, the frame is made from them. In addition, the Type 136 is equipped with an innovative electric drive from HPS: the entire power unit with a battery disguised as a bottle weighs 1.2 kilograms, and the electric motor weighs only 300 grams.
Lotus does not provide other characteristics of the bike, although it clarifies that the aerodynamic design of the bike is dictated by solutions from high sport - for example, those bicycles that are used in Olympic races.
Lotus plans to release just 136 copies of the electric two-wheeler in the welcome batch, one of the differences of which will be the design of the Type 136 frame and steering wheel in a racing style. A more affordable modification will appear next spring.
