The house that Jake built (16 photos + 1 video)
Without exaggeration, the amazing creations of an ordinary school teacher from New Hampshire look so fascinating that you want to not only touch them, but live with them.
Surely, almost every one of us imagined how to escape into the wilderness, at least for a short time, and be away from the bustle of the city and society with all its problems, enjoying the pristine nature. This guy went on and made his dream come true, and more than once.
Jacob
Jacob Witzling was born into the family of a talented architect. And although he went into teaching, and not in the footsteps of his father, the talent, apparently, was still passed on to him. While still a student, he miraculously talked the owner of a plot outside the city into letting him build a hut in the forest. It cost a total of $800 to build the hut. He begged for materials - scraps or purchased them for a symbolic sum at nearby construction sites.
It is clear that the conditions were Spartan. It was possible to cook only over a fire, and to wash in a stream. But everyday problems seemed trivial. Jacob ate in town and showered in the gym. But the most important thing is that his childhood dream of a tree house and his desire to live an independent adult life came true simultaneously.
The young teacher was inspired to create the next house by a dilapidated but very promising warehouse. This building turned out to be more solid and cozy, and the self-taught architect added a fantasy component by planting moss on the roof of the house.
He built the fairy-tale pyramidal hut with the help of his girlfriend Sarah Underwood, who completely shared the guy’s passion. The house turned out to be tiny, but two-story and authentic. It can be rented by anyone, so guests have a basic set of amenities, including electricity, running water, storage room, dry closet and even a hot tub. Most of Jacob's cabins are in Washington, with two in Maine and New York.
The next stage of the Cabinland project, as Witzling called it, immediately became a whole series, to which the creators gave the name “Castle-hut.
And then Witzling and Underwood changed direction a little and took on a project in the Socoran desert. Which was implemented no less successfully in the form of an eclectic tower topped with living plants.
Of course, it’s nice to leave behind such creations. But you won't live in them forever. And the couple decided to take on the challenge of creating something of their own. Their home on wheels became a house on the base of a pickup truck. Which Jake refers to as a fairy-tale character - a dragon. Which is logical, since according to the self-taught architect himself, he draws inspiration for his creations from books and films of the fantasy genre.
The creative couple's plans are to purchase a plot of land and build a hut for themselves. Taking into account their past experience, the guys will definitely create something very interesting.
