A tomato grown in space was lost 8 months ago.
Astronaut Jasmine Moghbeli said her colleague Frank Rubio was suspected of stealing and eating a tomato grown on the ISS as part of an experiment. After 8 months, Frank was acquitted. A tomato was discovered in space. This was reported during a broadcast dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the ISS in Earth orbit.
A miniature cherry tomato was grown in space for experimental purposes. They were then distributed to the crew in ziplock bags. Rubio's sample ended up in space. How exactly is not known.
Rubio, accused of eating an experimental vegetable, said that he had been looking for it on the ISS for a long time.
"I'm sure the dried tomato will come along at some point and vindicate me in a few years," Rubio said.
