The resilience and love of life of some creatures turn out to be so strong that you involuntarily want to take them into service.

A Bernese Mountain dog named Nova Riley has been missing for almost two months. And this week a miracle happened that the distressed owner Robynne no longer hoped for. Hikers discovered the fugitive along a trail at Meyer Ranch Park in western Jefferson County.

And they reported to the marshals service, since the large animal was injured - it broke its right front leg. And they did not have the opportunity to provide assistance on their own. An animal control representative also joined the rescue operation.

Nova Riley is a companion dog that must help its owner move safely. But in the parking lot the dog got scared and was able to slip out of the harness and run away.

Robynne Simons-Seely is disabled. Friends and acquaintances trying to help her joined the search for the dog. The dog was seen several times and attempts were made to lure it in, but it was too scared to approach people.

“She survived two snow storms and freezing temperatures,” Simons-Seeley said. “I cried every time it snowed.”

The hikers who found Nova Riley tried to befriend her, but she did not make contact and bit one because she was injured and scared.

An animal control official and marshals climbed about 5 kilometers into the mountains to help the dog. In addition to the broken leg, the animal was very emaciated. When they saw the lost dog, it became clear that this was exactly the dog whose missing notices were plastered all over the area.

With the help of treats, the specialist managed to win Riley over. The dog was laid on a tarpaulin and lowered to the foot of the mountain, where the owner was already waiting for her.

At first she was wary of the woman, but then she found out. And I almost went crazy with joy. “It was so sweet and touching,” Simons-Seeley said.

Unfortunately, the weeks of wandering did not pass without a trace. After an examination at the clinic, veterinarians stated that the damaged paw would have to be amputated. Plus, there is a long period of rehabilitation ahead, since the dog has lost about 9 kilograms - almost a quarter of its weight.

Nova Riley will no longer be able to work as a guide dog. But Robynne said she would not part with her: the dog would remain in the Simons-Seely home as a regular pet.

Robynne thanked everyone who did not remain indifferent to her misfortune and helped in the search, and said a huge thank you to her neighbors, acquaintances, tourists, and specialists from all departments. The story of a miraculous rescue proves that kindness is still alive in this world.
