A smaller version of the Mercedes-Benz racing car for children went up for auction (14 photos)
In Abu Dhabi, a lot of a small copy of the famous racing Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR, created for children, was sold at a Bonhams auction. The auction ended at $17,250, which is comparable to the price of the Lada Vesta sedan in its basic configuration with a 106-horsepower engine. 
The auctioneers do not specify the origin of the car, but from the description it can be assumed that it was produced by Junior Dreamcars from the Netherlands. In its specification, the replica of the famous 1950s sports car is 1860 millimeters long and is based on a steel chassis with plastic panels. The “salon” is finished with a combination of leather and fabric.
The equipment of the “sports car” includes 12-inch wheels, a transparent shield in place of the windshield, instrument layouts on the front panel, as well as an opening “hood” and functional lighting equipment. The car is driven by a two-stroke gasoline engine with a volume of about 50 cubic centimeters, which allows it to accelerate to about 30 km/h. “Sports Car” is designed for children aged 5 to 9 years.
The roadster is modeled after one of Mercedes-Benz's most famous racing models, which took part in six races during the 1955 season, winning five of them. The number 722 on the body refers to the start time of the historical original driven by Stirling Moss at the Mille Miglia race - 7 hours 22 minutes in the morning.
Two of the 300 SLR racing chassis built were converted into boxed road cars. One of these coupes, used by 300 SLR creator Rudolf Uhlenhout, now holds the title of the most expensive car in the world. Last spring it was sold at a closed auction for 135 million euros.
